Milligan Bio-Tech was started by a small group of innovators in Foam Lake, SK. Working in conjunction with other agencies within the canola industry as well as government and universities, the goal was to develop non food uses for oil seed crops.

In the mid 1990's Milligan Bio-Tech became a pioneer in the now emerging bio-diesel industry in Canada. The investments made by past and present shareholders have been essential to the development of a Canadian bio-diesel technology through collaboration with Agriculture Canada and the University of Saskatchewan. Upon incorporation in 1996, Milligan Bio-Tech began researching potential markets and testing our products, until optimal quality was achieved. In 1999 Milligan began producing methyl ester (bio-diesel) in a lab scale setting. Then to add value to the bio-diesel, research and development of the Diesel Fuel Conditioner and Penetrating Oil began.

Some highlights of Milligan Bio-Tech's work include: 

• Working with Saskatoon Transit (starting in 2002) to study the effects of bio-diesel on busses. Phase III is now being conducted with the use of 1% bio-diesel in the entire Saskatoon Transit fleet adn 5% bio-diesel in four of the newest busses.
• The 2006 opening of our crush plant in Foam Lake to produce the oil from non food grade oil seed crops, used for all of our products. 
• Beginning construction in 2007 on our Bio-diesel Optimization Plant that will have production capacity up to seven million litres per year once complete.

Today, Milligan Bio-Tech has four products in the marketplace as well as others in research and development. The existing products consist of Bio-diesel that is of the highest quality that meets or exceeds both the North American ASTM 6751 as well as the European EN 14214 standards. This high quality bio-diesel has allowed us to produce our superior renewable environmentally friendly co-products; Milligan's Diesel Fuel Conditioner, Penetrating Oil and Road Dust Suppressant.

Since production began in 2001, Milligan Bio-Tech has grown at a tremendous rate, nearly doubling its' sales every year. Our markets include a strong presence in Western Canada as well as the rest of Canada, the United States and overseas. This growth rate is expected to continue, as we are expanding facilities to meet the growing demand of the Canadian economy. Milligan Bio-Tech has been on the forefront of the bio-diesel industry for over ten years and through our ongoing research and development, we plan to stay ahead of the pack!
